EDGE Delivers a Remote Patient Monitoring System and Medical Equipment to Évora’s Hospital
October 2021

EDGE delivered a remote patient monitoring system and a set of medical devices to the Domiciliary Hospitalisation Unit (DHU) of the Hospital do Espírito Santo de Évora (HESE) to support a more effective monitoring and observation of patients in the domiciliary hospitalisation regime.
Connected with blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters and body composition scales, EDGE’s eCare Platform will allow the DHU Évora Hospital’s team to collect several patient vital signs and health parameters, including blood pressure, oxygen saturation, heart rate, weight and body mass index, and to maintain constant and adequate monitoring of hospitalised patients in an efficient, non-invasive and safe way.
Aside from the fundamental importance of the eCare Platform and its connected medical devices to the daily operations of the DHU Évora Hospital unit, this equipment will support the test, demonstration and validation activities of the European Project SPHINX (https://sphinx-project.eu). Financed by the European Commission, since 2019 the SPHINX Project aims to develop a universal toolkit for cybersecurity to improve the protection levels of HESE’s IT infrastructure and information systems, safeguarding the privacy, confidentiality and availability of patient data. Using simulation techniques, the eCare Platform and the medical devices will be used in pilot activities with the purpose of detecting potential system vulnerabilities and of reinforcing HESE’s response capability in the prevention, fight and recovery of cyberattacks. Importantly, after the conclusion of the SPHINX Project in early 2022, the eCare Platform will continue to securely support HESE’s daily management and operations, continuing to deliver to HESE’s patients a high-quality care delivery service.
