EDGE and the Next Generation Emergency Services
February 2015

The NEXES concept for the next generation emergency services has just been awarded a grant by the European Commission, under the Horizon 2020 framework.
EDGE contributed to the making of the NEXES 7.5 million euro winning proposal that joins seventeen partners in the
exploration of the promising integration of IP-based communication technologies and interoperability into emergency services.
NEXES will promote innovations on the use of total conversation capabilities in emergencies, including social media, to the benefit of citizens, including those with disability or special needs, on the exploitation of improved location information to rapidly and effectively identify and locate the caller and the incident site and on the leveraging of Internet-enabled connectivity to enhance interoperability and shared awareness among emergency services, aiming to create a more secure society.
