EDGE Contributes to Book on Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructures
February 2020

EDGE was invited to lead the writing of a chapter on cybersecurity for critical infrastructures in the Healthcare sector for the open access book Cyber-Physical Threat Intelligence for Critical Infrastructures Security that shall be published this year by Now Publishers.
Inspired by the results of the European project SPHINX and with the contributions of the National Technical University of Athens and ViLABS, the chapter is included in the book's second part that is dedicated to the cybersecurity of critical healthcare infrastructures. Titled Innovative Toolkit to Assess and Mitigate Cyber Threats in the Healthcare Sector, the chapter registers how the Healthcare sector has been affected for the last years by a myriad of cyber threats, mostly ransomware and phishing emails, and how healthcare organisations have managed their effort to accompany the evolution of cyber attacks and adopted adequate security strategies and proceedings. In this context, the SPHINX solution presents itself as being specifically designed and implmented to answer to the needs of the critical healthcare infrastructures, offering more automated functions for monitoring and controlling cyber threats and for certifying devices, components and applications, while delivering more transparency in the management of operations. A broad set of cybersecurity tools using honeypots, blockchain, encryption, anonymisation and simulation technologies are described, with the concern to highlight the decision to create a platform that is user-centred so that the SPHINX experience is significantly positive, adequate and useful.
EDGE's participation in this open access book reinforces the scientific, technical and innovation relevance of the solution being proposed by the SPHINX Platform, while marking undoubtedly the project's role in the current debate on cybersecurity for the critical infrastructures in the Healthcare sector.
