EUROSTARS

EDGE just won the AIMES - Advanced Internet-based ultimedia Emergency Services project, as part of the EUROSTARS European programme, in partnership with Deveryware (France) and Omnitor (Sweden). The European project AIMES ambitions to develop a new paradigm for the universal access to public emergency services, benefitting from advanced technological capabilities in multimedia, interoperability and the Internet of Things to promote healthier and safer communities.
AIMES is centred in the pan-European interoperability of emergency services, ensuring emergency calls using voice, video and/or text reach the right 112 service, based on a more precise location of the mobile device used to make the emergency calls. The location capability is therefore fundamental not only to create an advanced public alerting service that includes multilingual and imaging features, but also to develop a mobile application that allows emergency response teams to receive multimedia information about the emergency and to directly reach the citizen placing the call to follow the situation's evolution and provide instructions that may save lives. Further, the AIMES System demonstrates the use of IoT devices in emergency situations, highlighting its early detection capabilities, whether concerning the onset of fires, or falls or abnormal vital signs, and the ability to place automated emergency calls directly to 112 services saving precious time.
In AIMES, EDGE takes up the responsibility to develop a system that allows any citizen to reach the emergency services in Europe in a modern way, sharing location and emergency data and receiving public alerts, thus contributing to a more capable and effective emergency response effort and preventing the loss of lives.
