EDGE Successfully Conducts the First AIMES Pilot
June 2021

On June 24th 2021, EDGE and the AIMES partners, Deveryware and Omnitor, conducted the first Project pilot activity, involving the emergency services of the Basque Country, Spain.
The pilot allowed to showcase some of the different new functionalities developed for the AIMES System, which aims to establish a new paradigm of universal access to emergency services, benefitting from advanced Internet and multimedia technologies and of interoperability capabilities to improve emergency response efficiency and outcomes.
In a scenario involving a large forest fire, the pilot demonstrated to the Workshop participants how emergency services and citizens benefit from the new technological capabilities brought by the advanced AIMES System: a hard of hearing Swedish citizen makes a next generation emergency call, using chat and video capabilities, to report the forest fire and sends relevant incident photos of the emergency to the local Spanish PSAP (the 112 Basque Country service). The demonstration also highlighted the AIMES System’s roaming, automatic text translation and interoperability features, as it empowers a true pan-European next generation emergency service.
