Cybersecurity is one of the most critical aspects of the information and communication technologies infrastructures owned by healthcare organisations. Today, the paced digitalisation of healthcare processes, including the electronic health records, the telemedicine systems and the mobile health services, have introduced larger cybersecurity risks, at a moment when there is unprecendented number of cyber attacks to healthcare infrastructures, causing the disruption of healthcare services' delivery and compromising the integrity and privacy of patients data. Notwithstanding, the cybersecurity capabilities of healthcare organisations still lag behind the degree of technological sophistication exhibited by cyber attackers. This capability gap places the multi-billion euro healthcare sector at risk of more cyber attacks, causing increased damages.
The SPHINX reference scenarios address the growing adoption of new information and communication technologies by healthcare organisations, enabling the setting-up of health digital strategies and the creation of an European eHealth policy, aiming to significantly improve the quality and efficiency of the healthcare services' offer.
Adapted to the SPHINX project's specific context, the SPHINX reference scenarios are: the Digital Healthcare Service, the adoption of Electronic Health Services (electronic prescription, electronic health records), the relevance of Mobile Health Services (such as telemedicine) and of Remote Patient Monitoring platforms, the capability to Share and Exchange Patient Data and the Cross-border Delivery of Healthcare Services. Each one of the SPHINX reference scenarios encompasses a set of challenges, problems, needs, limitations and opportunities that empower the debate concerning the added value brought by the SPHINX Platform to the overall cybsersecurity of healthcare organisations across Europe.
