SPHINX Holds the First Project Meeting
January 2019

On January 17th and 18th, in Athens, EDGE participated in the first meeting of the Horizon 2020 European project SPHINX that signalled the official launch of the project that aims to revolutionise the existing cybersecuity solutions for the organisations delivering healthcare services.
Having as a host the National Technical University of Athens, the project's coordinator, the meeting gathered all seventeen SPHINX partners and allowed to start the work at hand. For two days, the consortium specialists from the industry, academy and practitioners discussed the reality of cybsersecurity in the European Health sector, sharing valuable experiences that are now the basis of SPHINX's structured effort. The primary work areas of SPHINX are the verification and certification of devices and applications (considering helth IoT and BYOD devices), the automated assessment of cybersecurity risks, vulnerabilities and threats, the creation of an interactive decision support system and the building of a set of cybersecurity tools involving the detection of anomalies, intrusions and suspect user behaviours, the setting of secure and anonymised information spaces and the creation of environments emulating the real information ecosystems for protection, simulation and testing purposes. A work plan has been defined for the next months to involve citizens and IT professionals in the Health sector, hospital administrators and cybersecurity specialists, in order to capture the different dimensions of the themes envisaged by SPHINX.
SPHINX (sphinx-project.eu) is a European research and innovation action dedicated to the development of innovative tools to promote the protection of information assets in healthcare organisations. Focused in safeguarding the patients' privacy and the digital transformation of the Health business, project SPHINX promises to solve the cybersecurity enigma for the Health ecosystem, benefitting the whole society.
