EDGE Discusses the Challenges and Opportunities in Digital Health Platforms
April 2021

On April 27th, the third Dialogue Workshop organised by the SHAPES European project hosted a discussion panel with the participation of EDGE’s CEO, Marco Manso, which debated the challenges and opportunities for digital health platforms in the way they promote the healthy and active ageing of European citizens.
Organised by the University of Castilla La Mancha, the Workshop gathered representatives of industry, academia, healthcare and social care institutions and civil organisations in a dynamic interaction that explored the vision of the SHAPES project and its attained results concerning the creation of an ecosystem of digital solutions to support the ageing process and the quality of life of older people at home settings.
After a presentation of Spain’s General-Secretary of Innovation, Teresa Riesgo, that addressed the symbiotic relationship among innovation, technology and health, more than 200 Workshop participants developed a critical analysis of the regulatory, ethical and interoperability aspects that influence the development of digital health platforms. It was highlighted that these platforms need to be supported by co-creation models, involving early on the true users of the platforms, namely the older people, the informal caregivers, the health and social care professionals and the public authorities.
The voiced perspectives and opinions at the Workshop will help guide the implementation of several activities within the SHAPES European Project, including the development of the ecosystem of digital solutions that aim to better support the delivery of integrated care to citizens throughout their ageing process. Promoted by a strong awareness and dissemination campaign, SHAPES’s third Dialogue Workshop highlighted the path that SHAPES partners have been treading, in order to provide the long-term sustainability of SHAPES’s innovative digital solutions ecosystem.
