SENSORNETS 2018 Explores IoT Devices to Detect Emergencies
January 2018

The presentation of a paper on the use of sensors in public areas and households for the early detection of emergency situations and automated 112 calls generated wide interest in the work that has been developed by EDGE.
Focusing on the use of sensors and devices to build intelligent homes, EDGE reveals how smoke sensors detect the onset of a fire and automatically trigger an alert to local emergency response services, preventing a potential catastrophe. Likewise, EDGE addresses how wellbeing monitoring platforms may, based on abnormal physiological parameters measurements, including heart rate, temperature or glucose levels, issue an automated emergency call and request emergency assistance for an unconscious individual, effectively saving the individual's life.
EDGE's participation in this scientific forum is directly related with the company's recent announcement to explore the development of an ambient assisted living platform, envisioning the set-up of intelligent ambiences attentive to individual and family wellbeing needs and capable of promoting and extending autonomous and independent living.
