EDGE Publishes in Pharmacy
January 2021

On January 12th 2021, EDGE published an article in the renowned scientific publication Pharmacy, titled “Shaping the Future of Healthcare Capacitated by Digital Solutions”.
In co-authorship with researchers from the Medicines Optimisation Innovation Centre (MOIC) of the Northern Health and Social Service Trust (NHSCT), this article is centered in one of the piloting activities proposed as part of the European project SHAPES - Smart & Healthy Ageing through People Engaging in Supportive Systems. The piloting activity addressed the need to research the impact of digital solutions in the optimisation of the medication, in order to promote the self-management of the health and wellbeing condition and to facilitate the timely intervention of the care team, based on remote monitoring and personalised risk assessments using artificial intelligence techniques.
In this context, EDGE will provide an adapted version of the eCare Platform to MOIC researchers to enable for six months the remote monitoring of specific physiological parameters of the pilot participants, namely blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and blood oxygen levels. It will also be collected the participants’ daily feedback on COVID-19 symptoms. These data will then be used by the MOIC research team to investigate the relation between the participants’ health and wellbeing condition and the adherence to the defined treatment plans to explore more expedite ways to control and optimise medication intake and to assess the impact of digital solutions in the participants’ capability to self-manage their health and wellbeing condition.
