Automated 112 Calls

The integration of automated emergency calls in next generation emergency services is an opportunity determined by the dissemination of technologies and intelligent sensors and their embedding into the domotics domain.
This message was amplified by the wide audience attending the SENSORNETS Conference 2017, held at Porto, from February 19th to 21st. Indeed, the triggering of alerts by installed sensors in intelligent homes is starting to be seen as a credible source of information for the early detection and identification of an emergency situation, when human lives are at peril. Whether a smoke, an air quality or a flood sensor, the alerting enabled by intelligent household sensing devices has the capacity to send additional information about the emergency to emergency response teams, such as firefighters, allowing them a better insight to the emergency and ensuring they are better prepared to handle the emergency on-site.
EDGE will explore in MAESTRA the application of sensors and sensor networks in intelligent homes for the development of automated emergency calls that can be articulated with the next generation emergency services.
